Have you been wondering if your partner has a sex addiction? Maybe you’ve been noticing some hints here and there and you have a suspicion, but you’re not sure you’re completely convinced. There are several different things that he or she might be saying or doing that are clear indicators that he or she has a sexual addiction, and if that is indeed the case, help is required in order to effectively deal with it. Your partner may even tell you eventually that he or she has a serious problem, and if and when that happens, sex addiction treatment is something that can give your partner the ability to heal.

Sex Addiction Treatment

It’s important for you to understand that sex addicts regularly feel compelled to act out with sexual behaviors. Sex addiction is a powerful force, just like other types of addictions, such as drugs or alcohol. Just like with other addictions, sex addicts often suffer from some type of trauma or challenging situation in their past, and sex is a way to escape from it. Once a person has made a commitment to abstain from their sexual acting out behaviors, he or she is able to work on developing the proper, healthy coping skills to identify those issues and heal from them. Sexual addiction treatment works well, but of course, sex addicts need to be willing to get the help they need.

Let’s talk about seven signs you can look for to determine if your partner may have a sex addiction.

Sign #1: Dishonesty – It’s a common trait for sex addicts to lie about just about anything. Perhaps you’ve been noticing that your partner isn’t honest about very much, and you find that disturbing. Your partner is actually leading a double life if he or she is addicted to sex, which means lying is “necessary” to cover the tracks.

Sign #2: Unfaithfulness – Have you ever caught your partner cheating on you? Maybe you’ve only actually caught him or her once, but you’ve suspected that it happened more frequently than that.

Sign #3: Lack of Long-Term Relationship History – Most people will admit to having at least one or two relationships that lasted a few months or even longer. If your partner doesn’t seem to have any type of long-term relationship history, it’s possible that he or she hasn’t been able to cultivate that type of relationship because of a sex addiction.

Sign #4: Strange Sexual Requests – If you feel like you’re being pushed to try sexual behaviors beyond your point of comfort, it might be because your partner is a sex addict and feels compelled to push you that way.

Sign #5: Secrecy – While it’s true that everyone likes a certain degree of privacy, maybe you’ve noticed that your partner seems a bit obsessive. Your partner’s cell phone is off limits to you and gets upset if you’ve been using his or her computer. These are common responses from sex addicts.

Sign #6: Manipulation – Sex addicts will often get very defensive when they’re caught engaging in behavior they know is wrong. They will even try to turn the situation around in attempts to blame their partners.

Sign #7: Constant Flirting – Have you noticed your partner flirting with other people, no matter where you go? When the flirting is always happening, it’s another possible indicator of a sex addiction.

Do you recognize any of these signs in your partner? Of course not everyone who shows one or more of the above signs means that he or she is a sex addict. However, if sex addiction is indeed present, professional help is necessary.
